Work will begin this month on construction of a new playground at Townsend Road Reserve in Rangiora.
The works will take place between now and January 2024 and include:
- Earthworks and surface preparation
- Construction of footpaths and concrete areas
- Installation of the playground equipment
- Installation of street furniture and fence
Entry/ exit points for construction vehicles into the site will be designed to limit the impact on traffic and take into account children playing and riding bikes on the street. Neighbours of the Reserve should expect some construction noise.
During construction access to the reserve will be restricted.
Council started consultation with the community on the design of the playground back in November 2021 and the final design was approved by the Rangiora-Ashley Community Board in August 2022. Delays in delivery of the play equipment and landscaping items meant that construction of the playground has been delayed.
The playground is expected to open in February and will include a timber teepee, balance beam, large open slide, smaller slide for younger children, swing set and separate nest swing, spinner, rockers, nature play area, flying fox and a formalised cycle / scooter loop path around the play space.
