Work is expected to start on the after-hours Rangiora Medical Centre later this year.
The new primary health care centre will be built adjacent to the existing Rangiora Health Hub and will allow patients to access health care from 8am to 10pm seven days a week and will be open to patients from other Waimakariri practices.
The development had been slowed by a number of issues which impeded the consenting process – this included the removal of asbestos from the site and a requirement as part of the consent process to consult with immediately affected neighbours which was more difficult because of the Covid 19 pandemic. We have now worked through these matters and are pleased that a consent has been issued.
The delay has added significant costs to the construction estimates as prices have risen sharply over the last year, but we remain focused on the delivery of this project.
The detailed designs are due to be completed by June/July this year. Then building consent will be applied for and the job put out for tender.
Provided there are no delays to the building consent process and subject to final tender pricing, site work should commence in the last quarter of 2023 and will be completed in 15 to 18 months.
At opening the new integrated health complex will house General Practice, Radiology, Pharmacy, and Urgent Care. Pacific Radiology is a key partner onsite and will provide a full range of radiological services including ultrasound, CT and MRI scans.
The urgent care facility will be open 7 days a week from 8 am to 10 pm.
Mayor Dan Gordon welcomes confirmation that the after-hours medical centre is on track. The addition of high-tech imaging as part of radiology services to be included is fantastic news and will be welcomed by the North Canterbury Community.
“While the initial plan for this after-hours facility is to offer extended hours of medical care, I would ultimately like us to have a full 24-hour facility here in Waimakariri and this is something I will continue to advocate for.”
