The Waimakariri District Council, in collaboration with the Rangiora Ashley Community Board and the Loburn Domain Advisory Board, is proud to announce the official opening of the new Loburn War Memorial. This significant event will take place on Thursday, 6 March 2025, at 10:45 AM in Loburn Domain.
The Loburn Domain Advisory Board has been diligently planning this project for several years, with the aim of creating a memorial that appropriately honours those who served from the Ashley County in World Wars I and II as well as more recent conflicts and engagements. Ivan Campbell, a representative of the Rangiora Ashley Community Board on the Loburn Domain Advisory Group, emphasised the importance of this memorial in commemorating the sacrifices made by these individuals.
The ceremony will feature a special flyover by local pilot Ivan Campbell in his replica Spitfire, accompanied by music from local bugle player Bill Peck and the Rangiora Brass Band. The order of service will include:
- Spitfire flyover
- Opening Ceremony
- Speeches
- Laying of wreaths/blessing
- National Anthem
The Council extends its heartfelt gratitude to the generous individuals and organisations who have supported this project through their time and financial contributions. Their dedication ensures that the memory of those who served will be honoured and their legacy preserved. Special thanks to:
