Calling all young people: Celebrate Creativity at the WaiYouth Summer Social.
Young people aged 12-18 in Waimakariri are in for a treat this summer with the WaiYouth Summer Social on Sunday 15 December, from 1:00 pm — 3:30 pm at the Rangiora Library and its outdoor spaces.
Organised in collaboration with the Waimakariri District Libraries and Eco Educate, this event offers a welcoming and inclusive environment where youth can come together, get creative, and build connections in a fun and supportive atmosphere.
The WaiYouth Summer Social will feature a variety of exciting activities, including:
- Badge making (with pre-set designs as well as designing your own)
- 3D printing design competition
- Re-Purpose Pals station – Weighted toys
- Lightboard drawing
- Christmas-themed crafts
- Lawn games
Attendees will also enjoy a free sausage sizzle, with gluten-free and vegan options available.
Youth Development Facilitator Emily Beton says the event is an excellent opportunity for young people to explore new activities and connect with others.
“The whole purpose of the event is to make people feel comfortable trying new things and getting creative in a safe space with like-minded people,” Emily says.
“It’s all about fostering a sense of community where everyone feels accepted and valued.”
The art and craft focus will allow attendees to learn new skills or refine existing ones, with plenty of supplies and resources available, including badge makers, Cricut machines, and crafting tools.
The event reflects WaiYouth’s commitment to creating safe, judgement-free spaces for young people to socialise and express themselves.
