Dudley Park Pools Ready to Make a Splash Again as Maintenance Wraps Up

Exciting news! The maintenance work at Dudley Park is nearly complete.

The Learn to Swim pool will be reopening this weekend following the replacement of its pump.

Aquatics Manager Matt Greenwood says that during annual servicing it was identified that the Learn to Swim pool’s pump would need replacing during the next planned maintenance closure in a few months.

“Unfortunately, the pump didn’t get the memo and decided to give up earlier than expected, so we had to act quickly to replace it,” he says.

This unexpected issue has limited the available recreation and leisure space between 8:30 am and 6:00 pm, with the leisure pool accommodating most lessons. Matt says staff have been impressed by how well visitors have handled the inconvenience.

“People have been fantastic. We’re still open 15 hours a day, seven days a week, and we’ve worked hard to accommodate everyone while prioritising the maintenance work.”

He says providing top-quality, safe, and accessible facilities for the entire Waimakariri District is the top priority for his team.

“We welcome 260,000 visitors per year, and around 2,000 people take part in the Learn to Swim programme each week. With those numbers, it’s clear why maintaining our pool standards is so crucial.”

Matt also notes that the spa filter needed replacing, temporarily putting the spa out of action — a disappointment for some visitors.

“We totally understand. Who doesn’t love a relaxing soak after a session? But it’s just a couple more weeks, and the spa will be back in action.”

With the maintenance work nearly finished, Matt and his team are looking forward to welcoming large crowds eager to cool off in the pools over the busy summer months.
