Nominations Open for Youth Service Award

If you know a young person in the Waimakariri District who goes above and beyond, gives of their time and is pretty exceptional - then it’s time to nominate them for a youth service award.

Nominations open this week and close on Monday 23 September.

Youth Council co-chair Ruby Wilson says since the youth awards were first introduced in 2022 as part of the Community Service Awards, they have been blown away by the calibre of nominees.

“There really are some fantastic young people in our district who are doing great things and these awards are a way of acknowledging just how important their contribution is.”

Ruby says the toughest job is picking just two recipients.

“That is without a doubt the hardest part. It is such a tough decision, but people shouldn’t let that deter them from entering. We love reading all of the nominations and hearing about all of the awesome things that young people are doing – it’s a real highlight for us.”

Waimakariri District Mayor Dan Gordon says there are a lot of people doing tremendous voluntary work in the Waimakariri District.

“It’s very important work and it’s therefore important to us as a Council and community that we acknowledge them.”

“Two years ago we introduced the Youth Service Award which is an award offered collaboratively by the Council and the Youth Council - to acknowledge young people who are making a significant contribution to the community.”

To nominate someone for the Youth Service Award please fill out this form and return it before Monday 23 September.
