A heavy rain watch is in place for North Canterbury until 3pm Wednesday and residents are warned to expect heavy periods of rain and snow is possible above 300 metres.

MetService New Zealand has issued a Heavy Rain Watch for North Canterbury for 27 hours from noon Tuesday 30 July - 3pm Wednesday 31 July.
Expect periods of heavy rain and rainfall amounts that may approach warning criteria. We should expect surface flooding across our roads and we will be monitoring rivers and waterways.
Please drive to the conditions. Please remember:
- If it's flooded - forget it!
- Stay home in extremely adverse conditions where possible
- If you need to travel please drive to the conditions
- Drivers should expect surface flooding and drive accordingly
- Clean out gutters and drains
- Prepare sandbags if your home is prone to flooding
- Keep up to date with the MetService website.

Snow warning
North Canterbury high country and the foothills, including Oxford and Cust should expect 30 to 40 cm of snow to settle above 400 metres, with lesser amounts down to 300 metres. Travel disruption and damage to trees and powerlines are possible. Cold conditions may cause stress for livestock.
