The Waimakariri Volunteer Expo is a chance for anyone interested in volunteering to meet with community organisations and learn about what volunteer opportunities might best suit their skills and interest.
Volunteering is good for you and good for others. You’ll learn new skills, share your knowledge with others, gain new experiences and give back to your community.
There are three expo events running across the district:
- Friday 8 March - Rangiora Library 5pm to 7pm
- Thursday 14 March - Kaiapoi Library 5pm to 7pm
- Thursday 21 March - Woodend Community Centre 5pm to 7pm
The expo also provides an opportunity for local organisations who depend on volunteers to share their services to maintain and expand their volunteer staff numbers.
Groups at the expo events can include emergency services, social services, information services, environmental groups, arts groups and community safety organisations.
The roles are many and varied, some examples include:
- Providing companionship or mentoring
- Cooking a community meal
- Working in an op shop
- Gardening working bees
- Reception or admin work
- Driving people to medical appointments
- Assisting with civil emergencies
- Volunteer fire brigade
