A milestone for the Kaiapoi Stormwater and Flooding Improvements project was achieved yesterday morning with the installation of the first of two big surface mounted stormwater pumps.

This install is part of the stormwater upgrades project as part of the Shovel Ready Funding.

These pumps will help to alleviate flooding and increase resilience in the Kaiapoi and McIntosh area by helping to pump and discharge stormwater out and over the stop bank into Kaiapoi River.

The work you can see shows the new pump station yard, including the concrete pad for the pumps, and large grated inlet structure where the water will enter, and the pipework will suck the water from.

What you can’t see are the large diameter underground stormwater pipes that run over the stop bank and discharge into the outflow channel at Kaiapoi River. Once the second pump has been delivered in the coming week, this pipework will be connected and the pump station almost ready to go.

This project is being jointly funded by Council and the Government through its Shovel Ready Project fund.
