Waimakariri District Council is pleased to announce it has settled on the sale of the vacant commercial land on the corner of High Street and Ashley Street in Rangiora, along with the building occupied by the BNZ.

The purchase was negotiated by a Council Selection Panel chaired by Mayor Dan Gordon (other members Deputy Mayor Neville Atkinson, Cr Joan Ward and Rangiora-Ashley Community Board Chair Jim Gerard) who helped secure the right developer with the right concept to fit into the vision of the Rangiora Town Centre Strategy.

With large traffic flow from both streets, the sites have a high profile and provide an entry point to the primary pedestrian area of the High Street of Rangiora – Waimakariri’s largest town.

Mayor Dan Gordon says this is a great outcome for a high-profile piece of land, an important bookend to Rangiora Town Centre and will further add to the vibrancy of Rangiora.

“We are thrilled to be working alongside developers and shaping the ongoing growth and development of Rangiora – especially for significant sites like our town entrances.

“Residents often tell us one of the things they value the most about living in Waimakariri is the unique character of our townships and we are really pleased that this project will continue to build on Rangiora’s character, look and feel.”

Council Property Manager Rob Hawthorne says From Council’s perspective a quality development on these two properties is very important.

“A very attractive two-story development is proposed, that will complement the town centre and bring some quality retail and business offerings to Rangiora,” Hawthorne says.

The site has been purchased by Cornershop Investments (https://Cornershop.space) which is made up of Eileen and Murray Irvine, Bridget Hope and Gabe Rijpma and Andrea and Jake Gardner.

The new owners have released a concept image of what is planned for this site and erected a hoarding on site providing contact details for anyone interested in the new building.

Murray Irvine and his wife Eileen have been integral to other key developments in the Rangiora Town Centre including the development of Good Street.

“Eileen & I are really proud of the two developments we have completed in the centre of the town and are looking forward to celebrating the completion of the Good Street laneway later this month.

“We all strongly believe in the future of Rangiora and are proud to be able to assist in its growth.”

Murray says they would love to hear from anyone who is interested in securing space for their business in the new BNZ corner development.
