More Parking on Rangiora's High Street

Tuesday, 11 September 2012

There’s been a slight easing of the lack of parking problems in Rangiora’s High Street.

Ever since the closure of a number of dangerous buildings and subsequent placement of containers in front of the now deconstructed Lambert’s building, car parking on High Street has been at a premium.

The installation of fencing along both sides of a significant length of High Street has also exacerbated the problem. However, there’s a small, but promising, sign today of some relief to the parking hassles. On the northern side of the road, where the protective container wall stood until recently, three freshly painted parallel car parks appeared this afternoon.

The fencing behind the parks will remain in place in the interim – engineering assessment is still being completed on the old Conway’s building and it is hoped that a decision on the building will be known shortly. A consulting engineer has assessed the Union Clothing building wall as in significant risk of collapse in even a future minor earthquake event. Replacement of the wall is in the hands of the building’s owner and this will need to follow due process so, at this stage, a timetable for its replacement is unknown.
